Basics of essential oils.
There has been a lot of resurgence in the use of essential oils. People nowadays are much more open to trying other things to heal. Some couple the use of oils with traditional medical care, while others are more devoted. Wherever you fall on the spectrum "holistic, modern medicine, or in between", understanding the basics of the more common oils can be helpful. They can also provide some soothing bath times, diffused into the air, and use for relaxation and a host of other things.
Aromatherapy uses oils taken from flowers, seeds, leaves, roots, fruit and twigs. These essential oils are formulated to work the body and have an ability to affect a person’s well-being.
The oils can also be inhaled directly, although one should be careful not to swallow or consume the liquid oils. Please, if you are allergic to things, stick your toe in first, before diving in. Some oils can burn you, or make you ill. They are not to be used willy nilly. (Do not just think..... Oh it is natural, so I will drink it all up ...nom nom nom, or pour it in my eyes .. NO.. NO.. that is bad and could have serious consequences) The ones that go on the skin, are often added to a "carrier oil (almond, olive, jojoba, grapeseed, coconut)"
This list is really just the beginning to peak your interest. There are plenty more which I will not get to, and if you decide you want more, there is no short supply of it.
Lavender- the "silver bullet of all oils" . This is pretty well known and used oil. Everything is always scented with lavender, ever notice? Well, is reported that lavender has relaxation properties and a calming effect. It is also great for headaches, sinus issues, and for reducing stress. Putting a few drops in your bath water can have a wonderful outcome.
Frankincence - promotes calmness peace and calmness. It is also reportedly pretty decent for insect bites, scratches and other skin problems. It can be used with a base oil, and applied to hair, and skin. This can also be added to bathwater and to hot showersMany who meditate or practice connecting to the Ascended masters use this oil on their third eye, in order to center and open the cosmic connection. This is probably my most favorite oil of all.
Lemongrass - Beside smelling amazing, and giving me a desire to eat it ( DON'T DO IT). Lemongrass has a lot of uses that include bug repellant of all things.( Laughs, no I do not want to eat bug repellant.) It has a nice relaxing scent to diffuse in the air, and of course it has a of spiritual connection as well. It is used to promote psychic abilities and is used to purify. If you need candles that need to be purified, this is your oil. Word of caution, it can and will burn or irritate the skin.
Tea Tree - Used for aura cleansing, protection, purification, to open mental channels and mental clarity, unclog upper chakras. This is a pretty powerful oil and can be used for a variety of things. It is known to give amulets and talismans strength. Some reported medicinal claims say it is good for acne and easing of chicken pox.
Citrus - Another that should be used with a carrier oil, as it can irritate the skin. It does act as a spiritual cleanser enabling the user to focus and center. Diffuse or to your awaken psychic awareness, the connection between spirit and soul. It also can be added to homemade housecleaning products you make to have the home smelling clean. Clean mind clean Spirit?
Peppermint- Peppermint will burn you. Ever pick peppermint from the garden? Probably not. Trust me it will burn your hands or any other body part you put it on. I one time tried to pick "catnip", unsuccessfully, so you get my drift. So, use caution, learn from my mistake. Mix with a carrier, and use sparingly. It can be used for healing, cleansing, and having a conscious present mind. Sometimes used in purification it can help with healing as it is a natural antiseptic.
Eucalyptus - Can be used in healing, exorcism(yes it does need to happen sometimes I think), healing rites, and banishing the badness. Some use it to strengthen protection and can be used to trigger your own natural healing. Also, on a side note if you have a nasty head cold, add a few drops of this and peppermint to your hot shower. It can be helpful in clearing sinuses, and with head colds in that fashion.
The thing is there are a million oils on the market. I can guarantee if you are reading this page, someone you know or facebook with is selling some. Some pretty high end stuff out there. I have not even talked about the mixes of oils together. The most important thing is to look for is the grade of your oil. Make sure it is therapeutic grade and not some watered down substitute. The more pure the oil, the better the grade.
I am sure I will write more about this, but like the title says " BASIC", so I am just beginning. If you have some more information you would like to add or share, please just hit me up. I love to learn.
