Float tanks(sensory deprivation) , sounds like something you would see in a scify movie. Not even close, well kind of. As matter of fact it is being heralded as a natural way to heal yourself, both mind and body.
Taps the mic.......Hello, my name is Cynthia... and I AM A FLOATEE.....
Now that I have confessed this, let me let you in on something really great. Floating is by far the easiest and most calming experience I have ever had. If you are like me, you mind moves from cars, to lunch to work, to dry cleaning, to the dog. It never stops, and keeps happening everyday you open your eyes. What if I told you floating could help you stop that clatter in your brain.
A 90 minute float can give you back your mind and your body(no you can not get this feeling in your pool or bathtub). Many studies have shown that floating can change you quickly into a peaceful meditative state. Imagine if you would deep meditation without distractions or even light. Your mind goes blank, and your body just relaxes. Bliss right?
Why MUST WE FLOAT... ? Tell us .. Tell us..
The pain management is what drew me, imagine if you would Zero G's on those tired aching, arthritic or sore muscles and joints. I am not a doctor, and suggest if you need one, go to one. This is more of an addition to treatment. Here are a few more reasons to consider trying this.
- stress management, recovery from addiction, and PTSD
- athletic recovery and performance visualization
- relief from discomforts of pregnancy
- help with sleep disorders
- spiritual discovery and meditation
- creativity enhancement and super-learning
For me, as I stated floating is about pain management. I was diagnosed with an auto immune disease that attacks my joints. I ache all the time. I tried floating as I felt my condition was unusual, and my treatment of it would have to be as well. I never expected the spiritual enlightenments I also got. They were pretty deep and personal and had me researching my visions, and symbols for days.
What to expect......? What do you mean I get naked?
When I first floated I got to the place, I noted it was clean, bright and had friendly staff. They gave me a tour, and told me what to expect. Float tanks come in a few varieties, the couples tank, the single tank, and the pod. I prefer the single Samadhi tank, but each has its merits. Some people prefer the pod, pictured below. The tanks are very clean(an essential for me), and you get your own room with a lock.
You have a private shower to rinse off in before and after. Yes, you do float in the buff. At first it seems odd, then it feels rather freeing. I did not know what would happen when I got in the tank. I found although initially awkward, it was warm and inviting inside, and you lose track of time and space. Things that are important are not so much anymore, and I have had some real epiphanies in there. I fall asleep sometimes, and other times I have seen colors, so wild. If no mind blowing spiritual message was received, I still leave limber, relaxed, and pain free.(P.S. the place I go gives you free herbal tea of your choice.. #score)
What makes this different from your tub or pool? Let me tell you........
Inside the float tank, eight hundred pounds of pharmaceutical-grade Epsom salt is dissolved in ten inches of water warmed to skin temperature. Like the Dead Sea, this extremely dense solution enables people of all body types to float effortlessly. Everyone has there own experiences, and there some health considerations to read about before attempting a float. However, if you do try this out, I am sure you will be pleased and come back for more.
