Charlemagne's daughter

Some of you might wonder what I mean when I say I am Charlemagne's daughter. No. I am not the daughter of some funky R&B singer. I know that is where your mind went. The Charlemagne I am referring to is the FIRST one.

Charlemagne, also known as Charles the Great or Charles I, was King of the Franks. He united most of Western Europe during the early Middle Ages. He also believed in educating his daughter's the same as his sons. Mighty progressive of him.

Growing up I never really knew a lot about my dad's family.  He was my dad, where he came from, and who his people are, were not discussed.  He died when I was a kid, and I always wondered. I assumed the worst, since he never talked about it.

I started searching and tracing my family tree. I have to admit the last couple of generations before mine, were rough. It painted a picture, of why my father said very little. Why he felt it was not worth discussing.

I continued my search, willing to accept whatever I found.  I soon had an amazing discovery.  I was overwhelmed with the amazing amount of strong, smart, creative, just, and heroic people that create my gene pool. I even found a direct line to me right from Charlemagne. I can move my finger from name to name, all the way back to him.

It does not make me special. It does not mean much to anyone. To me, it means even though there was a rough patch in my family, that we come from strong roots. We have overcome a lot. If my million times back grandfather can unite a whole continent I can get through and be successful at leading a happy and helpful life.
