Tibetan Singing Bowls

Today I decided I needed a boost. I was feeling rather flat. It happens. I saw that in the local area, there was going to be a singing bowl meditation and demonstration. Seriously, you do not have to hit me over the head with a singing bowl, of course I went. I have been on a serious hunt for my own very special singing bowl, and have not found my sound yet.

When I got there, I took a seat in the semi-circle. Our demonstrator today was named Matt. He was very open to questions, and took time before the meditation to talk about experiences people have, and his own experiences in using it for healing. Matt like all of us, make no claims to cure, or diagnose. All he offers is an alternative perspective to healing.  Singing bowl treatment is compared often to the same level of care as acupuncture. He is a soldier with PTSD, and really feels these bowls help heal him.

I listened intently, and learned when using a singing bowl, each one is assigned to one of the chakras.  The crown all the way down to the sacral. Bowls are either male or female. Male bowls are traditionally deeper in tone, and female ones are higher. He also stated that he felt that the metal in the singing bowls was special, and speaks to the metallic components of our blood and organs. I was in awe when I learned some  of the bowls he uses are 300 or so years old and come from Tibet.

Prior to the meditation Matt explained that each person will want and react to a different sound. He also said when using a singing bowl, which direction you sing it in matters. Matt stated that if you want to draw in energy you move clockwise around the bowl with the mallet. If you want to release energy you move counter-clockwise.

During the meditation people later expressed they felt or saw many things. Some people reported seeing colors, others felt sensations in areas that had been injured, some felt so peaceful they almost fell asleep. I felt something really unique.  With my eyes closed, I listened intently and rode the wave of sound. When I heard the bowl that was meant for me, it hit me right in the chest, and in my hands. I felt my chest and hands begin to tingle and felt almost a vibration. Each time he used that specific bowl, I felt that.  I had to ask him later which bowl it was. Turns out it is a male bowl, normally used for grounding. (A-HA....... I knew I would find it.)

It was enlightening and informative experience. My hands are still tingling. Matt  provided a wonderful experience for the whole room, and gave me a new insight on an alternative method of self care/healing. I have no had the pleasure of experiencing this for myself individually, so I will add it to my list of must tries..  I took his card, and plan on arranging a private session in the very near future.

Some of the amazing singing bowls he has. He couldn't fit them all in the space we were in.
