Montezuma Hot Springs

Natural Hot Springs. Such a foreign concept to those of us in NY.  You mean there are natural hot tub type formations in rocks, that I can soak in. Yes, yes there are.

I have learned there are natural hot springs, near many mountain ranges and mesas. Seems the heat from the earth makes them a perfect place to soak and to let go.

The ones that most near and dear to my heart are the ones in Montezuma, New Mexico.  When I arrived out west, I had no idea such wonderful things existed. I soon learned that these hot springs which run by the Pecos river, near the Sangre Di Cristo mountains.

They are FREE.... which is amazing to me, as I am sure they could charge.  They are also right near the Armand Hammer World college, so you can meet all kinds of people from around the world hanging out there.

The lovely famed Armand Hammer Castle, right next to the Pecos and the hot springs. There are rumored tunnels beneath this castle, that go from one side of the river under it and to the other side.

They run about 108 degrees, are cleaned once a month by locals, and have natural lithium deposits. No wonder everyone out west is so laid back.  Like all other not springs they are reported to have healing properties. Clothing is also optional, so remember not to be too shocked or bothered if there are people using this option.

I remember some of my fondest memories in New Mexico, were during winter. We would load up and go to the hot springs. We would jump in the ice cold Pecos river, and get out to jump in the springs.

It is about fifteen minutes outside of Las Vegas, New Mexico (Yes, there is a Las Vegas NM), and well worth the journey if you are looking to soak in these gifts from nature.
